February- National privacy month

Now that the holidays of 2018 are in the books, it's time to re-engage, re-focus, and re-connect with all records-related matters. ARMA Jacksonville Chapter rung in the New Year with a thought-provoking- almost futuristic - sic-fi presentation on Information Privacy & Cybersecurity. Greg Hassler, Senior Director of Cyber Security with the PGA TOUR, shared the numerous and insidious ways Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is accessed and marketed through phone calls, scams, CEO fraud, compromised business email, smart home devices, online shopping, and numerous other methods. Thankfully, Greg also discussed the ways to protect privacy both at home and in the workplace. For those members who were not able to attend, Greg's presentation is posted on our Chapter's website.

Looking for a Valentine's Day lunch date? Please join us on Thursday, February 14th, as ARMA Jacksonville Chapter celebrates National Privacy Month with a presentation by Suze Shaffer, a HIPAA Security Analyst with Aris Medical Solutions. This is a great follow-up to last month's CyberSecurity discussion, as Suze will continue the talk on how to protect data, avoid data breaches, and protect your business from an audit or investigation by the Office of Civil Rights or the State Attorney General.

The ARMA Florida Sunshine Conference is fast approaching, and we hope you are making plans to attend this valuable educational and networking event in nearby Orlando February 20-22.

Our Chapter's Study Group for CRA/ CRM Certification continues- Member Michael DeVanna, MLS, CRM, leads the session every other Saturday morning at 9AM at Lucy's Sweet Shop, located in the Costa Verde Plaza at the corner of 25th Avenue South and 3rd Street South in Jacksonville Beach. The next study session is February 16th. For further motivation regarding certification, check out "The Value of Being a Certified Records Manager" on our Chapter website.

We continue as a Chapter to grow, learn, develop, and embrace new concepts and technologies in the information governance / records management professions. In that regard, I continue to welcome your feedback and can be contacted at armapresident@gmail.com. If your membership has lapsed, we hope you will join the ARMA Jacksonville Chapter at https://jacksonvillearma.com/Join_Our_Chapter. On behalf of the Board, we look forward to seeing you on February 14th for National Privacy Month awareness and discussion.
